EVENT | ELLICSR Kitchen offers more than just recipes for cancer patients & caregivers

Last month, we were invited to attend an event at the ELLICSR kitchen (inside the Princess Margaret), a health, wellness and cancer survivorship center.  In the past, many of the events we attended were menu launches or new restaurant launches, but this time it was slightly different.  Don't get us wrong, there were some delicious food but this event left us with a desire to spread the word about the amazing work they're doing here! EVENT | Going Peanut Crazy at Evergreen Brickworks - Campfire Inspired Lunch

Last week, I attended an event by the Peanut Bureau of Canada to learn more about peanuts and peanut butter that I love eating on a regular basis. Let me just tell you that hanging out with RD Sue Mah and recipe developer Heather Trim gave me some nutty inspiration by the time they were done teaching me about the powerful peanut. I was spoiled with amazing weather at the beautiful Evergreen Brick Works with some unforgettable food made with peanuts & peanut butter!

I'm sure a lot of you have heard of or seen Chef Michael Smith on one of his many shows, including The Inn Chef, Chef at Home, Chef at Large, and the list goes on. Let's add the web series, Lentil Hunter on that long list! This new show features Chef Michael Smith on a global journey to find the best recipes using lentils.  I was invited to the launch to meet the Lentil Hunter himself as well as to try those delicious lentil recipes at Cirillo's Culinary Academy.

EVENT | Yum Cha TO Recap - a dim sum festival with Me.N.U, GwaiLo, Babi & Co., Linda Modern Thai, Canoe, Hot Bunzz, Feast TO & La Brea!

There was a lot of buzz about Toronto's very first Dim Sum Festival, called YumchaTO.  Being dim sum lovers ourselves, we didn't hesitate to buy tickets to attend.  It was held at a two-story building in the heart of Chinatown and although ventilation seemed to be a bit of an issue, that didn't stop us from indulging in as many dishes as we could!  

 

REVIEW | Tacos El Asador - serving authentic favourites from El Salvador & Central America

There's definitely no shortage on restaurant that offer tacos with their own twist.  However, when you're looking for the real authentic El Salvadorian tacos, enchiladas, quesadillas, etc. there's one place you should head to, and that's Tacos El Asador - a small hole-in-the-wall restaurant located in Koreatown, at Bloor St. & Clinton.

 

REVIEW | Daal Roti - a quaint Indian restaurant tucked away in Mississauga

Brampton is no stranger to Indian Cuisine and with so many choices, it can be difficult to find a good one. When we go out for Indian, we try to stay away from big name restaurants and franchises when there are so many little unique restaurants.  Daal Roti is highly rated and for good reason too!

It's that time of the year again - in just a week, it's Macaron Day!  Since 2012, Toronto has joined other cities such as New York and Paris to celebrate the little confections in support a local charity.  Macaron Day in Toronto will see 25% of macaron sales at participating shops proceed to The Red Door Family Shelter.

REVIEW | Sam James Coffee Pocket - a no-fuss, no-BS, quickie coffee bar in Koreatown

I'm sure many coffee-lovers in the city are already aware of the two Sam James Coffee Bar locations on Harbord and King St.  It was a mere coincidence that on one afternoon, I happen walking on Bloor Steet (just had some Korean soondubu that day) that I saw this hidden gem called the Sam James Coffee Pocket!  And, what a perfect name for this location.

Ever since our wine class last December (read review here), we've become big fans of what Toronto's iYellow Wine Club does - create a wine experience like no other for wine-lovers.  This time around, we were invited back for their 'Muscadet & More' event, to discover France's hidden gems.  I mean, who can say no to that?

WE LOVE | Natural Sins - delicious snacks that make you forget you're eating fruits & vegetables!

Eating healthy does not unnecessary mean eating bland vegetables for every single meal as there are countless cookbooks that offer health conscious meals that taste great. Snacking however, seems to be a different story for us. Whether we've craving sweet or savoury snacks, it  seems to be so easy to pick up that bag of chips and before you know it you're scrounging for crumbs at the bottom of the bag. Natural Sins is definitely the new generation of healthy snacks that won't make you think twice about going for that bag.
