EVENT | Taste of Toronto Safari to El Caballito, Yours Truly, Hopgoods Foodliner, Barque BBQ & Weslodge

Who's looking forward to the biggest food event of the year, Taste of Toronto this summer - remember the post a month ago when we attended the launch (read here if you haven't yet)?  There will be over 20 Toronto restaurants and 21 Chefs attending so don't forget to buy your tickets before they run out. Last week, we were invited to attend an exclusive "Taste of Toronto Safari" to tour 5 of the participating restaurant for a preview of their offerings. Who can say no to that? 

We were instructed to meet inside El Caballito (read our review here) along with about ten other guests. Upon arrival and saying hello to Manny, we were given a delicious glass of Manny's Margarita to sip on, a festive sombrero and a bite of their delicious Taste of Toronto offering!  We visited a total of 5 restaurants and toured around in a private van - we had such a blast with everyone.

Stop #1 El Caballito 

Pollo con Mole on cemita bread, mole poblano, pulled chicken, white onion & avocado

Stop #2 Yours Truly

 Salt Cod Inari – salt fish, sushi rice, horseradish ($6/6 crowns)

 Charred Octopus sous vide/charred BC octopus, chorizo, green mango ($10/10 crowns)


 Stop #3 Hopgood's Foodliner

 Albacore Tuna & preserved summer tomatoes, basil and crispy shallots ($8/8 crowns)

 Stop #4 Barque Smokehouse

 Smoked Duck Tacos with pickled radish, carrots, crispy fried chicken skin, and a hoisin BBQ sauce on a flour tortilla ($6/6 crowns)

 Stop #5 Weslodge 

 Wagyu Hot Dog on house bun with beet mustard & beef cheek marmalade ($8/8 crowns)
