REVIEW | Khao San Road - popular Thai restaurant in Toronto's entertainment district

I love Thai food - curries, noodles dishes and soups, etc, I love them all! Khao San Road is one of Toronto's most loved Thai restaurants and I finally got to try it last week (don't ask why it took so long). My friends and I made our way there for 6 P.M. and already there was a long line - we ended up waiting around 20 minutes, which isn't TOO bad.

Named after a street in Bangkok, Thailand, the restaurant strives to offer diners what it feels like to be in a restaurant in Thailand, rather than a Thai restaurant in Canada in terms of not only food but the overall atmosphere as well.  The Chef was brought up in Bangkok, Thailand and first learned to cook by her mother before studying culinary arts and then making her way to Canada.

This isn't a huge space but with communal seatings effectively laid out throughout the restaurant, they are able to sit a lot of diners comfortably. With the warmer weather, they have added 3 extra tables just on the outside of the restaurant.  Just know that if you choose to sit there, they won't be able to serve you alcohol.

Pad See Ew with chicken ($15.00) - wide rice noodles, chinese broccoli, egg, garlic, soy sauce & oyster sauce

Panang Curry with tofu & veggies ($14.00) - panang curry, red peppers, hot green pepper, kaffir lime leaf, thai basil & coconut milk

Khao Soi with chicken ($14.00) - egg noodles, golden curry, coconut milk, crispy noodles, scallions, coriander & lime

Their service seemed to be efficient even with the bustling crowds and the food was absolutely delicious.  I would say my favourite of the visit was the Pad See Ew and the Khao Soi as well. I loved the abundance of Khao Soi's golden curry - we ordered an extra side of rice eat with it after we devoured the noodles!  I will definitely be going back to this spot!

  1. Not sure if you are speaking of Chef Nuit who was the original architect, visionary & executive chef of Khao San Rd. She was, unfortunately, muscled out several yrs back by the current shark who runs the place now. No longer under her watch, the food & service has suffered severely (if you were there from the beginning, you would def know what I'm talking about & could now only imagine how spectacular the entire eating experience truly was) Your next stop should be "Pai" which is chef Nuits latest experience....just east of KSR south of Adalaide on Duncan. You can thank me later : )
