REVIEW | Les trois petits bouchons - modern French cuisine to impress your palate #FSinMontreal

For dinner on our first night there, Clara's co-worker recommended that we go to Les Trois Petits Bouchons.  Located on Rue St. Denis it was a short walk from the metro.

The space is rather cave-like with brick and stone walls and wood features all around the restaurant.  The wine list and specials were all written on the chalk board walls, which we found was unique and quirky.  Even their regular menu is brought to you on a chalkboard! Although all their menus are in French, if you request an English menu they will bring you one on their chalkboard!

This isn't a huge restaurant, but a more cozy one that seats around approx. 60 guests. We appreciated that as the ambiance was very intimate without getting too loud.

We each got a glass of wine to compliment our meal.  Red for me and white for Clara (forgot to write down the wine names)!  They bring out a board of bread and olive oil to enjoy.

We shared the Grilled Caramelized Octopus served with mini potatoes after reading rave reviews online.  The octopus was super tender and the sauce and herbs were extremely flavorsome.  The reviews were definitely right as this dish was delicious and we couldn't get enough of it!

Clara ordered the Tartiflette Au Morbier.  Tartiflette is a French dish that combines potatoes, cheese, onions and lardons. It resembled a fancy poutine with the potatoes and cheese. It was surprisingly light given how carb heavy this dish was in addition to the cheese.

I got the Braised Short Rib served with grilled lettuce and onion rings.  This was the highlight of the night.  The short rib was tender and fell off the bone (it was also a huge portion).  The grilled romaine was a good complement to the rib as well.  The mashed potatoes and onion rings were spectacular as well.  The onion ring batter reminded me of fennel cake.

So incredibly delicious and I highly recommend this!

Les trois petits bouchons definitely set the standard high for us with this amazing dinner the first night.  Great ambiance, tasty menu and their wine explains why it's such a popular spot in Montreal.  The service was good but staff could probably be a bit more friendly and welcome. This restaurant is definitely under rated for tourists visiting Montreal as it is more of a local hot spot!
