REVIEW | Rock Lobster Food Co. - popular Ossington Strip eatery provides creative ways to enjoy your lobster

Who doesn't like lobster, right? Rock Lobster has been creating a stir in Toronto's food scene as the city's very first lobster centric eatery by owner Matt Dean Pettit since its opening in 2011.  It's still seeing long line ups and a huge fan-base with their fresh & creative lobster dishes.

On Friday, I headed over to the popular Rock Lobster Food Co. on Ossington & Queen with my friend Sarah to try the culinary lobster-tastic creations!

We got there around 6:30 p.m. and got a seat right away (phew!).  The menu is pretty simple as a one pager.  Everything sounded so delicious but we did control ourselves with 4 entrees to share.

We started off with our drinks.  Their infamous Rock Lobster Caesar ($12.00) for Sarah and the White Rabbit for myself.  The Rock Lobster Caesar has a Nova Scotia Lobster Tail  as a garnish - how cool!  My White Rabbit ($10.00) looks rather boring beside it, but it was a refreshing Tequila drink. Just what I needed after a long week at work!

Next, came two of the four dishes we ordered:

The Rock Lobster Roll ($14.00), served with Yukon chips & dill pickle.  This was my favourite of everything we ordered.  Great texture of the lobster salad with the perfect sweet & savoury balance.  The chips were also additive!

The Oyster Rocka Lobsta Fella ($10.00), was a twist on the classic oyster rockefeller.  The presentation was beautiful but it tasted even better.  This is a must-try.

And then, came our other two dishes:

The ultimate comfort food - the Lobster Mac & Cheese ($14.00).  Macaroni and cheese with chunks of lobster in a skillet with cheese is some serious heaven-in-my-mouth.  The soft macaroni with the aged cheddar was just amazing.

The Flank Steak ($14.00) came with fried duck egg and hickory sticks.  I never tried duck egg before but it pretty much tasted and felt like a normal chicken egg... except thicker.  We couldn't enjoy too many of the hickory sticks as we were STUFFED by this point of our meal.  We did however enjoy the perfectly cooked * seasoned flank steak.

We both fell in love with the food and the fact that we could enjoy lobster in so many different ways.  The service was prompt & attentive but the overall lively & hip restaurant environment made our Rock Lobster experience, a fun one.
