REVIEW | Playa Cabana on Dupont offers generous portions of delicious Mexican staples

I've been a fan of Playa Cabana's Barrio Coreano since its opening (read review here) but didn't have a chance to visit their original location on Dupont until September this year. Thank goodness that I did because I can't stop thinking about their jar of jabanero sauce and scrumptious tacos!

It was a Friday night and good thing we had reservations because the line was out the door - apparently something to be expected here.  This is surely a good sign and I had high hopes for the Mexican feast I was about to indulge in.  We ordered chips & guac as well as the shrimp bucket to munch on while waiting for the entrees of tacos and house specials.

Check out our orders in detail below:
Guaca Fresca ($8.00)
Fresh made house guacamole served in a lava rock molajete, delicious & spicy!

Cubeta De Camaron ($16.00)
Cajun-style shrimp tossed in arbol-garlic butter and served in a bucket.

Tacos De Pollo Al Carbon ($13.00)
Guajilo-chipotle marinated chicken with fresh mango salsa on soft tortilla shells.

Tacos De Chori-Queso ($14.00)
Mexican chorizo in griddled corn torillas. Super flavourful with a nice crunch.

Tacos De Langosta ($18.00)
Steamed Canadian lobster with guac and queso fresco. Hands down the best lobster tacos I've had with generous amounts of lobster. So good that we got two orders of these!

Huevos Rancheros ($14.00)
Eggs, Spanish & Mexican Chorizo, rice, beans covered in flour tortilla & queso

Carne Asada ($19.00)
Guajillo & chipotle marinated flat iron steak served with rice, guac, beans, jalapeno-pico & corn tortillas.

The highlight of the night was definitely the Lobster Tacos and the Fish Tacos - I can't stop salivating at the thought of them now.  We got our entrees, Carne Asada and the Huevo Rancheros after stuffing ourselves with tacos so we couldn't enjoy those as much as we could have. Overall, everything we ordered was delicious and I would go back there the first chance I get.

Give Playa Cabana a try if you want some tasty tacos in a lively atmosphere!
