Messini Authentic Gyros - Grand Opening at Yonge & Eglinton

Messini Authentic Gyros had their grand opening for their Yonge & Eglinton location on Monday after the long anticipation.  To celebrate the grand opening, they were giving away free gyro's to the public!

When we got there for lunch, there was already a line formed outside the restaurant (yikes).

Stoney's Bread Company - you gotta eat here!

My friend has been telling me about Stoney's Bread Companywhich was featured on Canada's You Gotta Eat Here! We finally decided to go this past weekend and it's definitely worthy of being featured on a food network show!

Chodang Soon Tofu - good food is clouded by bad customer service by owner

We can never get enough of Korean food so we went to Chodang soon tofu this past Sunday. It's a little restaurant that doesn't seat many and is run by two people.  One lady serves and handles the counter while there's one person in the kitchen.

There isn't much parking as this is a very small plaza but when the other shops aren't open, there are definitely enough spots.

Momiji Sushi on Royal York - romantic place in Etobicoke for impressive Japanese cuisine

Yet another great sushi place in Etobicoke that I love to go to from time to time is Momiji Sushi Bar & Grill on Bloor Street & Royal York.  This place is more upscale and fancier than your typical sushi restaurants, so I like to go on special occasions.

Tasty Tours Part 2: Miss Cora's Kitchen & Chocolate Addict in Kensington Market

Read Part 1 of our Tasty Tour

The next two places we stopped by were Miss Cora's Kitchen and Chocolate Addict in Kensington Market as well.

This quaint little bakery has a big orange sign, so you can't miss it.  There was a table outside the bakery with various sweets on it - muffins, bars, cookies, and more.  It reminded me of an old fashioned bake sale that we'd have at school - except these treats were FAR better in shape and taste :)

Taste of Thailand Cuisine - hidden gem in Etobicoke

I am a huge fan of Thai food.  It was my second time going to Taste of Thailand Cuisine for dinner and I forgot how delicious it was there!  Located by Dundas St West and Kipling in Etobicoke (just outside GTA Toronto), this place is always busy at lunch and dinner times.  It's definitely a local favourite for many.

The restaurant has a great atmosphere and the service is top notch - the servers are friendly, polite and doting to your needs.

How pretty is the lighting alone the windows?  Interior is modern, clean and welcoming.

Tasty Tours Part 1: Ding Dong Bakery, Pancho's Bakery, Blue Banana Market in Kensington Market

This past weekend, we booked a Kensington Market Sweets Tour with Tasty Tours, which is basically a walking tour of a district in downtown where you try different shops and learn about the foods. We booked the Kensington Market tour which takes you to 5 different shops. This is part 1 of the two part post because there were so many places!

Getting ready to go!

Gluten Free Recipe: Blueberry Spelt Muffins

My sister can't eat gluten products and it's pretty hard for her to find something she can eat without getting sick so she asked me to bake some muffins for her that used spelt flour and orange juice instead of milk. The taste is no different from a normal muffin so it's a win win for everyone!

Toji Sushi - deliciously underrated sushi in Etobicoke

Sunday night, I was craving sushi pizza, so my sister and I went to Toji Sushi (our go-to sushi restaurant for sushi pizza) for dinner.  This quaint japanese restaurant is located in Etobicoke, pretty much a 15 minute walk from my place - more of a reason as to why it's one of my favorites!

For the love of baking: Green Onion Oil/Sun Dried Tomato Bread & Basil Oil/Sun Dried Tomato Loaf

I've only tried baking sweet breads so this time I thought I'd make something a little more savoury and flavourful! I love the way braided bread looks so I decided to finally try it! I cheated a little and used pizza dough as the base because kneading your own pizza dough can be a daunting task and buying pizza dough from the supermarkets is just as good!

Whene it comes to making bread, it's really up to your own creativty to decide what you want. I split the dough in two pieces so I could make different kinds. Set your oven to 325 farenheit and bake for 20-30 minutes.

South St. Burger Co. - another great lunch spot on Yonge & Eg.

I love a good burger so when I saw South St. Burger Co. just around the corner from my work, I had to try it for lunch.  It's directly on Yonge st, a block North from Eglinton Ave., which makes this a very accessible place.  I noticed a NYF (New York Fries) logo on the side, they must be the same chain.

Going into the restaurant, it's welcoming, clean with a LOT of comfortable and chic looking seatings.  I especially love circular "nooks" to sit in - of course when you're with more than just yourself :)

Zucchini Bread - how to bake the perfect loaf

I didn't get a lot of chances to bake while I was in Korea so I was pretty excited to use my kitchen and starting baking again! I love baking breads, its easy and usually turns out unlike all my cookie disasters! Monica mentioned zucchini bread so I thought I would make a batch and see how it turned out! I looked for recipes online and found one that was pretty popular on allrecipes.com (amazing website for all sorts of different recipes!)

With any recipe I find online, I try to tweak it a bit and make it a bit healthier and customize it to my own taste buds. This recipe was no different and I'll include the changes I've made.

Say Cheese - best gourmet grilled cheese sandwiches

For lunch, we made a visit to get some grilled cheese sandwiches at Say Cheese Toronto, a cozy retro-diner style shop in the Annex.  It's super easy to get to as it's right on Bloor street, just a few minute walk from St. George subway station.

From reading up on reviews online, we were pretty excited to try these sandwiches as grilled cheese is one of our favourites!

Joon's Korean Cuisine - awesome place for dak galbi (spicy chicken)

Dak Galbi (Spiced Chicken) is a popular South Korean dish that everyone should try.  In Toronto, Joon's Korean Cuisine is known as the place to go for Dak Galbi and you can definitely tell, as they always have a full house.

There are two locations in Toronto for Joon's - by Christie/Bathurst Station on Bloor Street, or in North York on Yonge Street.

The dish consists of marinated chicken pieces in spicy sauce with cabbage pieces along with add-on toppings such as: rice cake (a must), ramyun noodles, vermicelli noodles, extra veggies, and mozzarella cheese (another must).

Making Bulgogi Hot Pot At Home - Monica tries to cook

Bulgogi = marinated beef

Bulgogi is a super popular Korean dish that many people love.  It's very easy to make/prepare and most importantly, delicious!

Last weekend, as Clara stayed in making Hot Pot with her family, I decided do the same and enjoy a nice big bulgogi hot pot.

When it's too cold to eat out, think Hot Pot!

Unfortunately the weather is starting to get a bit chilly and the family decided to eat at home this past Saturday instead of going out. It's usually pretty hard to find a meal that can satisfy everyone's cravings so we ended up having hot pot. Chinese hot pot is similar to Korean/Japanese Shabu Shabu. It takes little preparation and is perfect for a night in with your friends and family.

Here are some easy steps to preparing your own hot pot!

Piggy's Restaurant / 돼지야돼지야 - best Korean bbq in Toronto/Thornhill

For our dinner tonight, we decided on a Piggy's Restaurant, a Korean BBQ place in Thornhill (Uptown Toronto), just North of Yonge St. and Steeles Ave.  This place is a pretty well known and popular restaurant in the Korean community for their 'aged kimchi & five-layer pork belly bbq' (such a mouthful).

Jack Astor's - the great Canadian poutine

After meeting people from different countries while travelling, it's become pretty clear that poutine is really just a Canadian favourite....not many other people have heard of it and it's definitely one of the things I missed most while living abroad.

Having said that, it's only fitting that one of my first meals out after coming home is a poutine. My friend told me that Jack Astors just recently added poutine to their menu so I figured I'd give it a try. They have three different kinds, Chicken BLT, Montreal Smoked Meat and Spicy Sausage. My friend and I got Chicken BLT and Spicy Sausage.

Who better to do it with than another food lover Monica who happens to know Toronto streets in and out.
