REVIEW | Bymark - Mark McEwan's Toronto restaurant for a perfect romantic dinner

There are a few high-end restaurants in the city that you save for special occasions.  We want to suggest this particular place Monica recently visited to celebrate her anniversary & had a flawless experience.  It's none other than Celebrity Chef, Mark McEwan's Bymark Restaurant.

First off, knowing that Bymark was part of the McEwan group, we went with high expectations on food, service, and ambiance.  The entire space was lit with candles on every table, which was very romantic and intimate.  Our hostess and server were extremely friendly and doting during our entire time there.  Our server especially was knowledgeable about all the items on the menu with recommendations and suggestions.

For appetizers, I got the Grilled Octopus & Calamari that was served with watercress, cucumber, satay sauce and coriander sprouts.  Loved the octopus as it was so juicy and tender!  All the items in this dish went well together with the right amount of acidity from the sauce.

My boyfriend went with the Shrimp Tacos in crisp beet wrap with citrus spiked aioli and scented soy. This was delicious as well.  Generous portions of shrimp in the beet wrap - I could eat these for hours.

Happy Monica with her Oliva Foccacia & a glass of Savignon Blanc.

For our main entrees, we ordered the 30oz. Canadian Prime Porterhouse for two.  We got this with the green peppercorn & sweet orange sauce.  I've never had Porterhouse before and I've become such a fan.  It was cooked to perfection and pre sliced for us.  Each piece was soft and juicy to the last bite.  I enjoyed the sauce with each piece as it complemented the steak well.

We also got two sides to enjoy with our steak. First is the Sautéed Mushrooms with caramelized onions and gruyere & garlic croutons.  I loved this side.  All the different wild mushrooms were great!  I highly recommended this if you're contemplating on choosing a side.

The other side was the Lobster Poutine with classic Bernaise sauce. The fries were made just the way I like - and there was a good amount of lobster.  Very tasty!

Ended our wonderful dinner with a simple dessert.  We were stuffed by the time we finished the steak! Maple walnut ice cream atop fresh blueberries - the perfect finish!

The food was great here but what really made our experience stand out was the service.  Food quality is important in a restaurant but service can make it or break it for a diner.  I can't wait for my next visit here where I can try their other steak and seafood!
