For lunch, we made a visit to get some grilled cheese sandwiches at Say Cheese Toronto, a cozy retro-diner style shop in the Annex. It's super easy to get to as it's right on Bloor street, just a few minute walk from St. George subway station.
From reading up on reviews online, we were pretty excited to try these sandwiches as grilled cheese is one of our favourites!
It was super windy today so it was nice going into this well-heated restaurant. The first thing we noticed were the funky tables and chairs that resembled old school diners - the cool ones. There were also quotes on the walls about "cheese", which was a nice touch!
The menu was simple and everything sounded so good. We opted to share two sandwiches:
First was the Pulled Pork & Pasta on whole wheat, which consisted of pulled pork, BBQ sauce, mac&cheese and cheddar cheese. IT WAS AMAZING, definitely both of our favourite. The combination of pulled pork and pasta may sound weird, but ended up great!
We chose the Sweet Swine for our next sandwich. This one had smoked bacon, caramelized onion, pickles with maple syrup and cheddar cheese. Another great tasting sandwich. I loved the addition of pickles but Clara took them out (more for me!). I thought that the pickles did overwhelm the cheese however.
They also have the classic bottles of coca cola and sprite, which goes well with the funky interior of the restaurant. The service was great - the sandwiches were made fresh and fast. It's not too busy in here but a good amount of people came into eat and some took takeout.
With such a great price point (compared to other grilled cheese places), this is a great spot for a delicious grilled cheese sandwich, whether you want a classic with only cheese or be brave with toppings!
We're definitely going back to try all the other ones we didn't get to eat today.
I want to taste the Sweet Swine sandwich the pickles and maple syrup would be a great explosion of flavors.
ReplyDeleteIt was very savoury and flavourful!
