Fast food is called fast food for a reason, it's in and out for those who are on the go or have no time. Don't let that fool you though, there is nothing fast about the time it takes for a new item to make it onto Mcdonald's Canada permanent menu as we learned when we attended the Mighty Angus Open Kitchen Flavour Session.
I had absolutely no idea how long it took for an idea or menu item to make it to the Mcdonald's Canada menu from start to finish prior to ending the Open Kitchen Session. Depending on what the item is, it can take months or even up to a year for a product like a burger to make its debut!
The Mighty Angus is a perfect example of that as it's the first new premium burger to hit the permanent menu since 2012.
What makes the Mighty Angus different from their other classic burgers? Personally I think one of the most distinctive features of the burger is the smoky Angus aioli adopted from the European market. It adds a touch of flavour that you don't get in their existing burgers.
To break it down, the Mighty Angus burger comes in a sesame and poppy seed bun with a third pound 100% Angus beef patty that's entirely sourced from Canadian farms. It also comes with hickory smoked bacon pieces and then your usual burger toppings like crisp lettuce, tomato, cheese and grilled onions and that smoky Angus aioli to finish it all off.
It was extremely informative to go behind the scenes to see how the burger is made and the care it takes to create that perfect burger.
The burger is about $6.40 which is pretty reasonable considering it's made with 100% Angus beef and can be part of an extra value meal with those Mcdonald's World Famous Fries that we all know and love.
The Mighty Angus is available now so check it out the next time you're grabbing a burger!
