KooKoo Chicken’s opening in Mississauga has been a long
awaited event for local bubble tea goer’s and Taiwanese snack food lovers. For as long
as I remember, enjoying quality bubble tea and Taiwanese snacks has been
synonymous to a 45-minute drive east to the bubble tea chains in Markham and
Richmond Hill. With the opening of KooKoo Chicken, local bubble tea giant
Bubble Republic will truly get a run for their money.
The interior design is vastly simple with only a few decorations on the wall and Koo Koo Chicken's own mascot.
Every table comes fully equipped with its own set of chicken and fries topping. It feels very familiar to the seaweed fries that many Asian countries offer and is a truly welcoming sight.
Unlike other typical fried chicken vendors, all the dishes are made fresh to order. You can expect freshness every time but you have to be willing to wait for it.
Despite the appearance of the chicken, it is not as greasy as other vendors and the meat is moist and juicy. It's made with a crispy and light texture that is seasoned quite well. You can choose between mild or spicy.
The Taiwanese Platter came as a bit of a surprise as you couldn't really tell what was included from the picture on the menu. The platter includes sausage, peanuts and a Taiwanese delicacy - pork intestines. The intestines are definitely an acquired taste as a warning to those with a light stomach.
The Taiwanese Steamed Bun resembles more of a sandwich than a
bun. Using pork belly as the primary meat of the dish, fresh pickled
vegetables, lettuce, a hint of cilantro and a fine mixture of sugar and peanuts; these ingredients brings out the various Taiwanese flavours that simply do not exist in
Mississauga.
All this food for $15! What a sweet deal!
Beef Brisket Noodles - great portion and value.
Koo Koo Chicken Bites with Rice - if the chicken alone is not enough, add some rice to your dish along with the side dishes.
Contrary to the many bubble tea restaurants that have come and gone in the past few years, Koo Koo Chicken is definitely here to stay. They will definitely build up popularity as you can see the restaurant filling up quite quickly even at weekdays and odd hours.
