REVIEW | High Tea at Shangri-La's Lobby Lounge - live music, cozy fireplace & heart warming tea on a chilly afternoon

The Shangri-La hotel is known for its luxurious and Asian-influenced decor and the new hotel in the heart of Toronto was no exception.  At first glance of the lobby lounge, you see massive paintings, beautiful sculptures, friendly smiles from the servers and a wide burning fireplace, which is where we were seated.  Seeing as everything from service ro ambiance was perfect so far, we had high expectations for our high tea.

From their large selection of Green, Black and Herbal teas, I selected the Midnight Jasmine and my friend went with the Very Berry  Punch.  Our server was very knowledgeable in each of the teas and was able to explain what we can expect from them.  She was also very attentive, checking up on us often to make sure our tea cups were never empty.

The scones were great - especially the butter scones, which I preferred to their popular Raisin Scones.  They were served with devonshire clotted cream (love!) and peach compote.

Now, for my favourite part of any high-tea, the dainty sandwiches! We both enjoyed the Chicken sandwich the most.
  • Smoked Salmon with cucumber with herb crème fraiche
  • Egg Mayonnaise
  • Ham & Brie with apple on marble rye bread
  •  Chicken with wholegrain mustard and mayonnaise

Finally, a selection of seasonal pastries:
  • Crème brûlée
  • Choux Cream Puff with sprinkles
  • Matcha Cake with hint of lemon
  • Classic Carrot Cake
  • Ginger Madeleine

 The Video Summary:

As we chatted over the scones, sandwiches, pastries and tea, we also really enjoyed the live piano music.  It really made our high tea experience stand out from the other because of this!

Overall, the tea was great, the service and ambiance, exceptional.  We thought the scones were delicious but the finger sandwiches and pastries weren't too memorable.  However, just the entire experience here differentiates itself well from others with service and atmosphere.  The Lobby Lounge at the Shangri-La Toronto is definitely a must-visit!
