REVIEW | JaBistro - Toronto's Japanese hot spot takes Sushi to the next level

Who hasn't heard of Toronto's new sushi hot spot, JaBistro by now?  Opened by James Kim, the man behind Guu Izakaya and Kinton Ramen (we also love those places) in late 2012, this place has been serving top-notch sushi and modern Japanese culinary creations.

We finally set out to try this talk-of-the-town last week!

Upon arriving to the restaurant, we were seated at the bar (we requested to so we could see the sushi chef working their magic!  The bar area is quite large and there's plenty of seating in the rest of the dining area.  There's also the rooftop patio for those who like to dine outdoors.

We first ordered the Kyukyoku - the ultimate fresh pieces ($55).  Immediately, we were impressed with the presentation.  How pretty!

It comes with about 10-12 pieces of various fresh fish on rice.  I loved the fact that the rice is already sauced so that I don't have to dip each piece in soy sauce/wasabi.  Each bite was literally melt-in-your-mouth fresh.  We especially enjoyed the Uni (sea urchin), Kobe Beef, and Lobster.

Next, we got their signature JaBistro Roll ($22).  It was blowtorched in front of us, which was cool.  JaBistro Roll has salmon, snow crab, uni and tobiko.  It was simply amazing.  It's a must-try when you're here!

We also ordered the Lobster Sandwich ($20).  Simply served with sundried tomato croquette, poached egg and dijon, it was again, very visually appealing.

We didn't find this that flavourful.  Maybe because the two preceding dishes were so good, the lobster sandwich didn't amaze us.  However, we found the croquette to be delicious!

We didn't have room for dessert so they gave us little chocolate bites that was refreshing and cleansed our palate.  Perfect finish!

Overall, we had a wonderful time here - their staff is extremely attentive, quality of fish is to die for and the ambiance of the place is inviting and modern.  I can't wait for my next visit, perhaps on the patio!
